Youth commemorate June 16 with sport in Phomolong

Lesibe Soccer Academy wins June 16 soccer tournament.

Guidance Of Leaders Destiny (GOLD) staged a soccer tournament to commemorate Youth Day.

Danger Zone FC celebrate their second place.

On June 16 eight soccer teams came to Phomolong sporting ground to compete for the big trophy which was the first prize for the tournament.

Chairperson of GOLD Elvis Mnyela said this was the fourth annual event held by the organisation in an endeavor to keep youth away from the use of drugs.

“We also seek to sponsor local teams wherever necessary. We have helped teams such as Umlimlo by giving them soccer kits and we also helped a Phomolong ladies soccer team, where we gave them soccer kits, tracksuits and training equipment,” said Mnyela.

He said the day was a success and that they wanted to thank their sponsor for making it possible for youngsters to celebrate Youth Day with sport.

“We also had netball games for the day and we want to develop it further for our future GOLD events,” he said.

Lesibe Soccer Academy were the overall winners of the day and they went away with a trophy and medals for all their players.

Lesibe Soccer Academy head coach Mr Petros “Shoes” Sehlapelo said the tournament was well organised but it was very tough.

“We previously played against the team we played in our first leg. At the tournament they knew our playing style and as a result it was difficult to beat them,” said Shoes.

Lesibe Soccer Academy beat Danger Zone FC 2-0, and emerged victorious in the tournament.
