Croydon residents gather on Youth Day to strengthen relationships

Community members came out in numbers to march against crime with their families, friends and neighbours

AT least 40 Croydon residents gathered at Joan Hunter Park to participate in a community fun walk on Youth Day, June 16.

The event, organised by Sebenza SAPS CPF sector two, was meant to strengthen relationships between the community and the police and to also entice the youth to visit the CPF’s youth desk.

War councillor Simon Lapping and Sebenza SAPS station commander, Col Catharine van Wyngard, were present to show the community support and encouraged them to unite and speak out against criminal activity.

LOCALS came and walked with their families.

“This fun walk is an annual event but this year we decided to do it on Youth Day because we want to also strengthen our relationship with the youth and show them they have a role to play from an early age to help combat crime in their neighbourhood. There are so many ways in which they can help if they come to our youth desk.

“There are crime incidents in Croydon every week, so this walk gives us the opportunity to interact with the community so that when we invite them to CPF crime meetings, they can come out in numbers. There are so many crime trends the community still needs to learn about and the only way to know about them is to have relationships with us,” said Andrew Mosesi, CPF sector two executive chairperson.

Mosesi thanked Martin Scott, CPF sector two chairperson, his team of patrollers and all CPF members who helped make the event a success.

YOUTH Day started with a bang in Croydon.
