Two men from Ivory Park were expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Monday following their arrest by the Ivory Park detectives for a murder which was committed late last month.
The suspects were arrested on Thursday last week.
The Ivory Park SAPS communication officer Captain Bernard Matimulane said the two suspects, aged 24 and 26, are related to each other. They are alleged to have gone to an address in Ivory Park’s Extension Seven, armed with pick handles, to confront another man who had a scuffle with their sister, with whom he is in a relationship.
“The man is reported to have broken the window at his girlfriend’s place and the men wanted to get even with him. Unfortunately for the suspects, the person they were looking for was nowhere to be found at his landlord’s place, which is also a tavern. The suspects began by breaking windows. They allegedly assaulted patrons at the place, passers-by and bystanders, including the deceased,” added Matimulane.
Matimulane said the 37-year-old deceased, who also lives nearby, was one of the people who was assaulted, and sustained serious injuries to his head.
“He succumbed to his injuries while in hospital on June 6. The men have been charged with murder, with the possibility of other charges provided that those assaulted on the day come forward to make statements,” said Matimulane.
