Benoni Fire Station closed following damage caused by protestors

The station was stoned by group of marchers from Actonville on their way to the Customer Care Centre in the CBD

A group of marchers stoned and damaged Benoni Fire Station this morning around 8.15am.

According to William Ntladi, emergency services spokesman, the crowd was marching from Actonville to the customer care centre offices in the CBD over service delivery issues that concerned the delivery of houses.

The damage subsequently brought the station to a stand still although the extent of it is still undetermined.

Ntladi said stones and an assortment of objects were used to break newly revamped machine bay doors and office windows. Temporary contingency plans have been put in place in case of any eventualities that might arise around the operational jurisdiction.

Surrounding fire brigade services such as Brakpan, Farrarmere and Boksburg are in place for swift interventions.
