Childminder arrested for assault

Child mender arrested for abusing a child.

A childminder was arrested on June 22 for assaulting a child.

“It was alleged by the 24-year-old mother of the child that she was called by police to go to where she left the child at Winnie Mandela Zone 8. When she arrived she met the police family violence, child abuse and sexual offences investigators.

“The police told her that they had information that her child is being abused. She told them that she didn’t know anything about it. She was asked to enter the house where her child was kept,” said Captain Manyadza Ralidzhivha.

“As she entered, she found a few women in the room. When she looked to the child she noticed that the child’s weight had drastically changed – she was very thin. The child also had bruises on her back and buttocks. She immediately went back to the police and informed them she wanted to open a case against her nanny.”

Ralidzhivha said police immediately arrested the 31-year-old woman for assault on a minor. She is detained at the Tembisa cells and will appear before the magistrate soon.
