A quick response by members of the Ivory Park South African Police Services (SAPS) sector policing resulted in the arrest of two men as they were on the verge of breaking into the local shopping mall in Kaalfontein.
Ivory Park SAPS communication officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, said the two suspects, aged 23 and 29, were apparently seen in the early hours of Wednesday last week by the security officers of the mall loitering nearby.
“They called the Ivory Park police who quickly rushed to the scene. By then the suspects had already gone into the mall and were, after thorough searching, found hiding in the ceiling of the local Yarona Shopping Centre. They were found in possession of screwdrivers, hammers, side cutters and a spanner. It became clear to the police that the two went to the mall with the sole intention of burglary and stealing,” added Matimulane.
He said the suspects were taken to Ivory Park Police Station for detention.
“They have been charged with attempted business burglary and possession of house burglary break-in tools. They are expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court. In the meantime, the Ivory Park police are investigating whether the two may be in some way connected with some house burglaries and other burglaries in the area,” added Matimulane.
