Breakfast treat for Ivory Park elderly
The store's public relations officer, Tom Makhura said about thirty seniors were invited to come and be served the breakfast and others were handpicked inside of the store while doing grocery shopping.
In an effort to continue to give back to the community, the Pick n Pay Swazi Inn held a breakfast for the elderly on Wednesday last week.
The store’s public relations officer, Tom Makhura. said that about 30 seniors were invited to attend and enjoy breakfast and others were handpicked inside the store while doing grocery shopping.

“We are planning to host the breakfast every two weeks as part of ploughing back into the community that supports our business. We also realised some seniors are not well taken care of as most still cook, clean and wash for their children and grandchildren. They never get time to relax or be served with special meals.”
“As Pick n Pay we pledge ourselves to look after these seniors by at least giving them a meal for that day. We hope this initiative will help them to break the silence of abuse that they are faced with in their homes and reach out to other elders,” said Makhura.
Makhura said it is their aim to be actively involved in community outreach programmes – they are also sponsoring football games for the youth of Ivory Park and Tembisa.
Makhura said it touched his heart to see the seniors relaxed while waiting to be served.
“The elderly couldn’t contain their joy of happiness when treated with the free breakfast.”
One of the seniors, Phillys Hlatswayo, said she was feeling weak and hungry when she was handpicked at the store to join other elders.
“I am delighted with the special treatment from our store in Swazi Inn,” said Hlatswayo.
Meanwhile, David Sebanyoni appreciated the food served by the store.
“We thank Pick n Pay for recognising the elderly,” said Sebanyoni.
