Terenure residents are heartbroken at the senseless murder of an elderly man who was shot and stabbed four times at a Handel Street home around 9.30am on Friday morning.
A neighbour, who prefers not to be named, told Express what happened: “Three men armed with firearms and knives entered our home to rob my wife (62) and I (72). They shot and killed our neighbour, who is in his 70s, when he unsuspectingly arrived.
“The men pointed firearms at us and ordered us to lie on the floor. Because we are elderly people, we struggled to do so and tried to tell them but they did not care. They hit my wife with the butt of a firearm to get us to lie down.

“They closed the curtains and locked the door but unfortunately my neighbour arrived to give us money for cakes he ordered. He continued knocking when we did not open.
“The robbers opened the door and shot him. They then also stabbed him four times for asking what they were doing. He was stabbed in the stomach, back and shoulders.”

Terenure CPF sector three rushed to the scene but the suspects had already fled. It it believed they panicked after firing the shot and fled the scene.
“People say they saw five men running away, so we think the other two were outside our house during the robbery. I want this to be a warning to all our neighbours in Kempton Park so they can try and be safe.”

CPF chairpersonĀ Renee Erasmus said, “The suspects fled on foot and ran to catch a taxi. As CPF we express our deepest condolences to the family after this senseless killing of an elderly man who was not a threat to the robbers.
“We urgently plea with residents to be more vigilant and be the eyes and ears of the CPF and report all suspicious behaviour with as much detail as possible. We also need more community involvement in all sectors of the CPF.
“Interested people can contact me or their sector patrol commanders should they want to join the CPF and have an active role in combating the scourge of crime. I can be contacted on 082 758 7399.”
Norkem Park SAPS W/O Mahlodi Langa said they were investigating a case of murder.
