Man trapped in car wreck on R21 for almost three hours

The exact circumstances surrounding the crash is not yet known

It took emergency services almost three hours to remove a seriously injured man from the wreck of his car after it had crashed into the back of a truck in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Werner Vermaak of ER24 said the accident happened on the R21 near the Benoni off-ramp around 3am.

He said paramedics from ER24, the fire department and Sanral emergency services arrived on the scene where they found the vehicle almost completely wedged underneath the rear of the truck.

“Paramedics could barely gain access to him but managed to treat him until he could be removed from the wreckage. Once freed, he was re-assessed and treated for his injuries before rushed to Tembisa Hospital.
