Newly opened Winnie Mandela CCC vandalised
The centre was recently opened to serve the community and to provide basic services.
Tembisa SAPS members are investigating a case of public violence following reports, on June 19, about the vandalized customer care centre at Winnie Mandela Park in Tembisa.
The centre was recently opened to serve the community and to provide basic services.
Executive mayor, Clr Mzwandile Masina said, “The unfortunate acts of criminality undermine government efforts to ensure that quality services are readily available in all communities. Whilst we note and respect the rights of communities to protest, this shouldn’t be used to opportunistically sabotage public goods. We condemn this behaviour.”

The Siyaqhuba service delivery response team, together with the Office of the Chief Whip, Clr Jongizizwe Dlabathi, visited Winnie Mandela Park last week. The visit included a community imbizo for all community members to raise concerns.
“Such a platform could have been best to raise and address burning issues. It is not right that a two-day power outage justifies the burning and vandalizing of a recently-built customer care centre,” Masina said.
“The EMPD is investigating the criminal acts. More importantly, the city will meet with community leaders to assess the situation and to resolve genuine matters arising from the community,” Masina added.
Ward 3 councillor, Clr Dorcas Makwela, said members of the community were angry about electricity cut-offs.
“On the night of June 19, the community resorted to vandalising the customer care centre. They broke it and stole computers among other items,” said Makwela.
The acting manager of the Tembisa CCC 2, Deborah Marumo, urged residents of Winnie Mandela to pay for and access municipal services at the Tembisa CCC 1.
“Residents in need of statements, proof of residence or those who want to report complaints, can call the Ekurhuleni call centre on 0860 543000. For life-threatening events they should contact 011 458 0911,” said Marumo.
The Tembisa SAPS communication officer, Captain Manyadza Ralidzivha, confirmed that a case of public violence had been opened. “No one was arrested,” he said.
