Kempton welcomes home one of its own
He matriculated at Hoërskool Jeugland as student president and Dux scholar
AS of January next year, the community of Kempton Park can look forward to welcoming back one of their own when Dr Dirk Lombard takes up residency as a family practitioner in Van Riebeeck Park.
Having done extensive training at the renowned Groote Schuur and Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospitals in Cape Town, as well as the Academic Complex in Kimberley, Lombard promises exciting prospects for patient and family care.
Lombard is no stranger to the community. He attended both primary and secondary school in Kempton Park, matriculating at Hoërskool Jeugland as student president and Dux scholar.
After completing his medical studies at the University of Pretoria, Lombard occupied a position on the board of management of the medical school and was ranked among the top 15 per cent of medical scholars, globally.
After representing South Africa in – among others – Europe, Australia the United States of America and China, he returned to take up a position at the globally acclaimed Groote Schuur Hospital.
He describes his tenure at Groote Schuur as having been ‘highly educational’, explaining that it allowed him to observe and learn from the best the country has to offer. He also had the opportunity to work under some of South Africa’s leading paediatricians at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.
Having a keen interest in family care and mental health, Lombard also had the rare opportunity to work at the Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital.
Coming from a family of educators, Lombard has a special affinity for teaching and was involved in the clinical training of undergraduate doctors at the University of Cape Town.
After declining an offer from a major international pharmaceutical company to work as one of their youngest innovation consultants in Europe, Lombard took up a position in the Department of Anaesthesiology at Kimberley Academic Complex.
In addition to being a successful medical practitioner, Lombard is also a skilled communication consultant having trained multiple television and radio personalities, politicians and academics. He has a special interest in and fondness for the field of communication psychology.
