Child Welfare to host superheroes picnic for the kiddies

The event will also allow for entrepreneurs to book stalls and sell their products at the market

CHILD Welfare South Africa will be hosting the first ever Superheroes Picnic at the Market on Saturday (July 8).

The fundraising project, which will be in collaboration with Kaleideo Church in Glen Marais, will benefit child welfare in their mandate to promote, protect and enhance the safety, well-being and healthy development of children in South Africa.

Similar to the situation of most NGOs in the country, child welfare has been experiencing challenges which are related to finances and this has impacted on the staff as well as its operations such as community education and training projects and campaigns, which are focused on the safety and overall well-being of children.

“The Superheroes Picnic at the Market is just one of the ways in which the organisation hopes to raise some funds to lessen the financial stress which it has been under,” says Sandra Moodley, fundraising coordinator at Child Welfare.

The event will also allow for entrepreneurs to book stalls and sell their products at the market. Anyone in the food, jewellery, arts & crafts, clothing businesses in Kempton and surrounding areas can book stalls at the Kaleideo Church grounds to showcase and sell their goods.

“This is a call to all small businesses and merchants to grab this opportunity by booking your stall and all communities in Ekurhuleni to shop around for their favourite goods and products all under one roof.”

Also on the programme is a superheroes dress competition open to the public at a small fee. The categories and costs are as follows: children aged one to nine years will pay R20 and children aged 10 to 18 years and adults will pay R50.

Registration and application forms for booking stalls and the competition can be collected at the Child Welfare SA head office, 247 Monument Road, Glen Marais from 8am to 4pm daily.
