Hawker shot dead in Ivory Park

Ivory Park SAPS communication officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, said the victim was in the company of her husband when they met an unknown man who, without saying a word, fired the fatal shot.

Ivory Park SAPS is still in shock after the fatal shooting on June 28 during which a 40-year-old woman was shot dead while walking to the corner where she sells food.

Ivory Park SAPS communication officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, said the victim was in the company of her husband when they met an unknown man who, without saying a word, fired the fatal shot.

“It is reported that the husband was slightly in front of the wife, pushing the wheelbarrow containing the food she sells, while the woman, who was carrying another container of food, was walking behind her husband. Nothing was taken from the victim or the husband. The incident happened at about 4am. The suspect apparently passed the husband and he never thought much of him until a shot was fired. The suspect was then seen fleeing the scene on foot,” added Matimulane.

The station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, also attended the scene.

Like the other community members at the scene, he struggled to think what the motive for the murder might have been.
