Ivory Park SAPS crime prevention officers and detectives from the Ekurhuleni North Cluster Tracing Unit arrested three men for a business robbery that was committed at Kaalfontein on June 28.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS communication officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, the three suspects are from Diepsloot in Johannesburg.
“The robbery took place during the night of Wednesday last week when six men, two of whom had firearms, forced their way into an Ethiopian national owned shop. Entry into the shop was gained by cutting the corrugated iron. Once inside the shop, the victim was first hit with a firearm to ensure compliance.”
“The suspects then ransacked the shop. Airtime, cigarettes, clothes and money were taken. Somehow the local crime prevention team on duty got wind of the robbery and rushed to the scene. The suspects fled the scene on foot and the police pursued, arresting one of them in the process,” said Matimulane.
Matimulane added the suspect, 19, told the police that he was, like the rest of his team, from Diepsloot.
“He was found in possession of a bag full of coins and cigarettes. During follow-ups by the tracing team, two of the suspects were arrested in Diepsloot. The two other suspects are 24 and 28 years.”
The search for others is on and the three are expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon to answer to charges of business robbery,” added Matimulane.
