Two men from Ivory Park’s Extension Two are currently behind bars after they were allegedly found in possession of a stolen motorcycle.
Their arrest brings to three the number of suspects arrested for possession of motor cycles in Ivory Park during the week of July 25.
The Ivory Park SAPS management is pleased by the ever increasing role played by the community of Ivory Park in bringing the suspects of these crimes to justice.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS Communication Officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, the two suspects were arrested after someone tipped off the community patrollers. Without hesitation they informed the sector manager who then did the necessary job.
“Following this arrest, the police are on the hunt for two more suspects alleged to be the masterminds responsible for buying and transporting the stolen motor cycles across the border. The recovered motor vehicle was apparently destined for Zimbabwe. The two suspects, who are both 32 years old, are expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court to answer to a charge of possession of suspected motor cycles,” explains Captain Matimulane.
Capt Matimulane added that the motor cycle was found to have been stolen in Diepsloot, Johannesburg.
“As early as Monday of July 24 another suspect, aged 33, was also arrested in Ivory Park, Extension Two for possession of suspected stolen motor cycle. The police believe that part of the reason these cycles are now stolen frequently may be that they are easy to conceal, even in small places, and they are also easy to dismantle and transport,” says Capt. Matimulane.
Based on this thinking, the Station Commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, called on the community to play their civic roles and report any suspicious activity.
