A manhunt has been launched to find the killer of Rhythm City actor Dumisani Edwin Masilela, who was shot while visiting a friend in Umnonjaneni Section in Tembisa on Wednesday night.
Masilela, who lived in Van Riebeeck Park in Kempton Park, was shot while sitting with his friend in his Golf 7.

“The incident took place at 8.20pm. Dumisani’s vehicle was idling when a black Jeep arrived with about three to four males inside. One of the males walked up to Masilela’s vehicle and just shot him,” said Tembisa South SAPS Communication Officer Captain Neldah Sekgobela.

Captain Sekgobela said Dumisani was rushed to Tembisa Hospital where he passed away on Thursday morning.
South African Police Service Gauteng Corporate Communication Officer, Captain Kay Makhubele, said police had launched a manhunt for the suspects for attempted hijacking and murder.
“Gauteng Police are investigating a case of attempted hijacking and murder which took place in Tembisa, last night at around 20:00. One of the male suspects allegedly walked up to the victim’s vehicle and the driver noticed that the suspect was carrying a firearm. He (Dumisani) then drove off.
“The unknown suspect allegedly then shot the driver. The driver managed to drive off until his friend took over and drove off to the hospital. The suspects are still at large, no arrests have been made,” said Captain Makhubele.

“e.TV is shocked and saddened by the untimely passing of Dumi Masilela. Dumi played the role of Sifiso Ngema on Rhythm City for the past five years. He was cast in the role after he was seen on a popular TV singing competition.
“We would like to extend our sincerest condolences to his wife Simphiwe and Dumi’s entire family. We have lost a bright star, and he will be dearly missed by everyone at e.tv and the Rhythm City team,” said e-TV managing director Marlon Davids.
