Parent demands apology from ER24 after crash through Glen Marais wall

Sam Hamade is disappointed that an ER24 spokesperson provided the media with wrong information

GLEN Erasmia parent Prince Sam Hamade said he is disappointed ER24 Spokesperson Ineke Huyssteen provided media with incorrect information.

Hamade’s 19-year-old son was involved in an accident in Glen Marais when a vehicle he was driving crashed into a house on Anemoon Street on July 28.

“I am angry that Ineke Huyssteen told the media that my son was a teenager of 17 years but my son is actually 19 years old. The emergency services people arrived, found the boys there, but did not bother asking their age.

“This is something which we can sue for because firstly, we expect emergency services people to feel sympathy at accident scenes and provide medical care, instead of telling lies about what is happening,” said Hamade.

The son asked not to be named and said he saw the emergency services people at the scene but none of them bothered to ask him his age and just assumed he is a teenager.

“My son has a legal drivers licence which the metro police also verified when they arrived. If the child was a teenager and driving without a licence they would have arrested him because no one is above the law.

“We want Ineke Huyssteen to retract her statement and then apologise for this misinformation,” Hamade added.

ER24 was informed about the parent’s complaint and released a statement: “We have received the information from ground staff and hence used ‘believed to be’. However, we understand now that this is not the correct age and apologise for not stating the actual age at the time. Please note that Ineke van Huyssteen only provided information that was escalated to her.”
