Youth development workshop on Saturday
The workshop will serve as a platform for youth to express their views on issues affecting them and together find a way forward that will benefit all stake holders
KEMPTON’s youth is invited to attend the first ever Masihambisane Future Leaders workshop to be held this Saturday (October 7).
Under the theme “Innovative, socially responsible, ethically engaged and globally informed society”, the workshop will serve as a platform for the youth to express their views on issues affecting them and together find a way forward that will benefit all stakeholders.
Masihambisane Future Leaders was started by 29-year-old Mbali Mthembu and her husband Kgotso Bookholane, also 29. The couple was later joined by Nevell Moletashope (29) and 24-year-old Ayanda Magubane.
“My husband and I were conducting research for a project at work when we realised that there are no active youth development programmes in our community that deal with skills and social development. As the country faces high unemployment rates it seems most young people have given up on their dreams and focus more on alcohol and drugs,” Mthembu explained.
“Our purpose is to design, manage and facilitate youth development projects, including entrepreneurial skills development, through workshops.”
As time goes on the workshops, which are planned to be a monthly event, will divide the youth into groups according to age, industry and interest.
“The main aim of the movement is to get the youth of Norkem Park, Birchleigh and neighbouring communities to get involved as much as possible in fighting youth unemployment, drug abuse and crime.”
The first workshop will be held on Saturday at the Coen Scholtz Recreational Centre in Birchleigh North and will start at 9.30am.
