New shopping centre opens in Kaalfontein at the end of the month
Drake Koka Primary School and David Makhibo Secondary School have been identified as the schools benefiting from the project this year
Kaalfontein Corner, a new 9 600 m² shopping centre in Tembisa, is due to open at the end of November.
Situated on the corner of Main and Angelfish roads, the centre will be anchored by Shoprite and Meat World and will provide residents with a large selection of quality stores in various retail categories.
This includes banking convenience with Nedbank, Standard Bank and Capitec Bank as tenants.
National retailers joining the tenant mix include Pep, Ackermans, Rage, Jet, Fair Price, Power Clothing and Beaver Canoe, along with speciality stores like Autozone and Medizone Pharmacy.
Shoppers can also look forward to a satisfying mix of food outlets and restaurants, such as Debonairs, Romans Pizza, Chesanyama, Fish & Chip City and Galito’s.
The developers, the Moolman Group and its partners, are proud to bring convenience to Tembisa. From the estimated 166 340 households served, about 91 710 are located within a 4km radius of Kaalfontein Corner, while a further 8 200 houses are being built within a 10km radius of the mall.
Since breaking ground, the development has had an uplifting effect on Tembisa, both in terms of education and employment. A community training centre was established for the duration of the project to enable training and certification of community members in construction related trades and skills, such as power tools, welding safety and scaffolding inspection to name but a few.
Encouraging local entrepreneurial development, the initiative ensured maximum local employment through the duration of the project, while providing training to 305 individuals to date.
The centre owners are deeply committed to making a difference to as many lives as possible. It is with this attitude that they drive the CSI initiative, Bags Full of Love.
The project aims to provide a creative and inexpensive alternative for Christmas décor by using bags decorated by local school children.
In addition, a wish list is requested from the participating school, which can include from learning aids, sports and lab equipment; desks and chairs to computer upgrades and more, all to the benefit of the learners, ensuring a sustainable, long-term impact.
