WATCH: Mango flight turns back after bird strike at OR Tambo
According to Davids the incident happened about 15 minutes after take-off at about 2pm
A Mango flight from OR Tambo International Airport headed for Cape Town had to turn around on Sunday afternoon following a bird strike shortly after take-off.
Wheels24 editor Sergio Davids, who was travelling on board the flight, shared pics and a video of the damaged engine, which saw Mango flight JE 147 returning to OR Tambo.
According to Davids the incident happened about 15 minutes after take-off at about 2pm.

He told Traveller24: “I could hear the impact, followed by the horrid smell of smoke in the cabin.”

The co-pilot then came out and checked the engine and ran back to the cockpit, Davids told Traveller24.
“Shortly thereafter the pilot announced that they were turning back as an engine had suffered damage. He urged passengers to remain calm.

Express is trying to get comment from the airline.
