Needy community members get food parcels for the festive season.
Brethren in Christ Church gave food parcels to needy community members on November 26.
Church leader pastor Maqhawe Ncube said the food parcels were given to needy elderly people, widows and orphans.
“Today’s event is about giving back to the community. It is the first time we are doing this and it is going to continue.
“Six families benefitted from these food parcels.
“James 1:27 and James 2:14-26 were our springboard verses that triggered us to reach out to the community to minister to their physical needs.
“We will from next year reach out to the community by giving out food hampers twice a year,” said Pastor Ncube.
He added that the project was done in order to fulfill their mandate as a church towards orphans and widows.
Asked how the Brethren in Christ Church identified the needy community members, he said they approached the councillor of Ward 13 Clr Ndala Sibanyoni and asked him to assist them in finding eligible beneficiaries.
“Brethren in Christ Church is a community church whose aims and objectives are to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ in demonstration both physical and spiritual. Apart from food hamper distributions to the community widows, orphans, and the needy elderly, the church is also packed with other community projects plans like, orphanage assisting schemes, a school of carpentry for the community youths, more community feeding schemes, a creche and a bursary fund for orphans and the underprivileged,” said pastor Ncube.
