Foetus found near vlei taken to government mortuary

The tiny body was taken to the government mortuary in Germiston.

Norkem Park SAPS was called to a scene by a waste metal collector who had noticed a small human body on the edge of the vlei banks on the corner of Pongolariver Drive and Emberen Street, Birchleigh North, on Tuesday afternoon.

Upon arrival, police found a foetus with the umbilical cord still attached to the body.

“The tiny body was taken to the government mortuary in Germiston,” said Capt Lesibana Molokomme, communications officer at Norkem Park SAPS.

“The mother who did this is unknown. The police appeal to anyone with information to come forward and assist with the arrest of the suspect.”

Norkem Park SAPS is investigating a case of concealment of birth.
