Norkem residents battle with illegal dumping

Residents are trying to chase the culprits away

RESIDENTS of Norkem Park Extension Four have made calls to ward councillor Desmond McKenzie about the illegal dumping site on Pongolariver Drive.

The dumping has been a nuisance for weeks.

McKenzie said residents complained most of the dirty work was done at night which made it very hard for residents to see who was doing the dumping.

“This is not a dumping site. We held a public meeting about this dumping and residents expressed their unhappiness about this,” Mckenzie said.

“Residents are trying to chase the culprits away and are taking down their registration numbers. But in the evening, it is a little difficult because most of the residents are inside their houses.”

“We need to ensure that this place is cleaned on a regular basis. It poses a health hazard to nearby residents. When a place looks like this it becomes infested with rats and is eventually undesirable,” Mckenzie added.
