Four killed in horrific accident on R21 near Voortrekker Road
One critically injured patient was flown to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto
FOUR people died on impact in a horrific accident on the R21 around midnight on Saturday.
Two cars and an articulated truck were involved in the accident which occurred on the R21 southbound just after the Voortrekker Road off-ramp.

William Ntladi, spokesperson for the City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) said a rescue team from Kempton Park Fire Station swiftly responded to the scene following a call to the emergency services call centre.
Ntladi said three of the five people in one of the cars were declared dead on the scene while the other two sustained critical injuries.
“In the second sedan, there were five occupants as well. One patient was declared deceased on scene and the four others sustained serious but stable injuries. The truck driver was alone escaped without injuries,” Ntladi said.
“Backup was requested from Boksburg Fire Station as patients were trapped inside both cars. Specialised hydraulic rescue tools had to be used to free the patients from the wreckages.”
One critically injured patient was flown to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, while the rest of the patients were transported by road to Union Hospital in Alberton, Tembisa Hospital, Tambo Memorial Hospital in Boksburg and Sunshine Hospital in Benoni.
The freeway was closed for the duration of the rescue operations.
The scene was handed over to law enforcement units for further investigations.
