A man burned a house that belonged to his ex-girlfriend’s mother in Kanana Section on December 2.
Rabie Ridge SAPS’ corporate communication officer Captain Mofana Matsobane Masela said in the early hours of Saturday a jealous ex-boyfriend burned a house which belonged to his ex-girlfriend’s mother. As a result, that incident led to a house belonging to the suspect’s brother getting burned as well.
“A fight between two ex-lovers led to the ex-boyfriend arriving with petrol at about 4am, whereupon he broke a kitchen window and poured petrol into his ex-girlfriend’s home. The suspect set the house on fire. His ex-girlfriend escaped through the window and ran to safety.
The boyfriend disappeared. The damage to the house is estimated to be R15 000,” said Captain Masela.
The owner of the house, Nensi Williams, alleged her daughter Nosiphiwe and two grandchildren were admitted to Tembisa Hospital.
“Her household goods, fridge, television, beds, bedding, wardrobes and a sofa were burned to ashes.
In anger the lady’s family went to a house belonging to the suspect’s brother where the girl’s family threatened the owner to leave the house. They poured petrol in his house and burned bedding and a bed. The damage is valued at R10 000.
Windows to both the RDP houses were shattered and the doors were broken.
Police are investigating a case of arson. Although the suspects are still on the run, police will make arrests soon because the suspects are known.
Police have made a plea to the community to stop using anger and alcohol to resolve their problems
