Local set to impress at SA Empress 2018
Gauteng Lady to be crowned the first Empress SA
South African women have over the years been excluded from leadership roles due to cultural stereotypes that sought to confine women to submissive positions.
They are hardly given an opportunity to demonstrate their leadership skills.
Tankiso Ngkontsi (23) believes leadership is an innate quality and that leaders are born and nurtured throughout their upbringing.
“Initiatives like Miss Eagle South Africa are striving to give a platform to women to showcase those leadership skills, innovative ideas and their ability to set up projects which are aimed at assisting the community,” said Tankiso.
The first time she came across an advert of the pageant’s quest to find the very first lady to be crowned Empress SA, she went through the organisation’s requirements and learned that they sought to empower women by giving them the drive to serve and build better communities. She said she identified with the pageant’s objectives and felt more eager to contribute to making a difference in her own community.
Tankiso is not a novice in serving the community as she has been involved in different community based initiatives.
“I served in campaigns against substance abuse (drugs) because drugs are a major problem in the community. The abuse of drugs compromises community safety. I therefore took part in awareness campaigns teaching people about ways of staying safe in their surroundings.”
Tankiso said her involvement in community projects gave her a thorough understanding of community needs.
“This experience created passion for me to assist the community in every way possible. Miss Eagle SA has become an aid for me to spread my work within the community and I work tirelessly to complete community based assignments given to me as a brand ambassador of the pageant,” said Tankiso.
On October 16 she was part of the World Food Day campaign that was raising awareness on the issues of food securities and community members were encouraged to start backyard food gardens.
“I am aiming to do more and this will only be possible when I advance to the next level of Miss Eagle South Africa. To advance I need the support from the community. On December 15, 2018 Miss Eagle South Africa will be hosting a live show at the Sandton Convention Centre where they will be crowning the first Empress SA.
