Mortuary owner apologises for victim’s ordeal of being put into a coffin

JUST IN – In the early hours of today, The Tembisan reported about two suspects who were arrested on December 15 for putting a suspected thief in a coffin at a mortuary in Vusumuzi Section.

The mortuary owner, Mandla Maseko, said he was alerted to the article at around 12noon today and only then he got to know about the incident that took place on his property.

“I was shocked to find out about such a cruel act.

“I nearly collapsed when I learned that the incident took place on my property,” said Maseko.

Maseko said he was not there when the incident took place because the property was left under the watchful eye of a contracted caretaker.

“The mortuary was not yet operational since it was built in 2008.

“I was building the business for my uncle Paulos Maseko (MPM Funeral services) who unfortunately passed away on November 2.”

Maseko said he was planning to take over the business and he was looking forward to serving and work well with the community of Vusumuzi Section and Tembisa as a whole.

“I distance myself from the incident and plead with the community to understand that I never intended for cruel activities to take place on my property.”

He said his caretaker was tricked into letting the suspects gain entrance into the non-operational mortuary.

“I, therefore, apologise to the victim and his family and the community at large. I hope to continue to work well with the community and assure them that the business is meant to positively serve the Tembisa community.

“In future, I will put systems in place to make sure that this does not happen again. I plead with the community to keep a watchful eye to ensure that criminal activities do not take place on the property that is meant to help them,” said Maseko.
