Laptops worth R390 000 confiscated at house in Ecaleni Section

The 43-year-old man was arrested and detained at Tembisa Police Station

Laptops valued at R390 000 were confiscated by Ekurhuleni Metro Police at a house in Tembisa on Friday around 5pm following a tip-off from the community.

One suspect was also taken into custody, Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesperson said.

“Members of the community from Ecaleni Section alerted the metro police when they saw numerous boxes being off-loaded from a truck into a house. EMPD Winnie Mandela Precinct officers responded swiftly with the result that suspected stolen goods were recovered and one suspect apprehended,” Kgasago said.

On arrival at the address provided by the informants, the metro police found the truck gone but on conducting a search of the house, uncovered 26 sealed laptops estimated to be worth R390 000 in the tenant’s room. The tenant in whose room the goods were found could not provide a satisfactory explanation or documentary proof for the goods.

The 43-year-old man was arrested and detained at Tembisa Police Station on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.

“In-depth investigations are underway to trace the origin of the goods and as to how they were obtained and ended up in Tembisa,” Kgasago said.
