A 30-year-old woman from Norkem Park was arrested on Monday morning for allegedly neglecting her one-year-old son.
According to Norkem Park SAPS communications officer Capt LP Molokomme, the station received a call that a young child was left alone in a yard.
“When the police arrived on the scene they found a one-year-old boy seated alone next to a locked gate,” Molokomme said. “Hanging on the gate was a bag filled with diapers, a bottle, baby food, baby clothes and the boy’s clinic card.”
The child was taken to the police station until his parents could be traced. His father, once located, alleged that it was the child’s mother who dropped him off at the father’s house.
The accused has since been taken to the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court, where she will face charges of child neglect.
The Norkem Park SAPS has since appealed to parents not to involve children in their personal disputes.
