Third attempt to steal woman’s (74) car at Cavendish Glen

Car guards at the centre alerted an Ekurhuleni Metro Police officer

Unidentified men attempted to steal an elderly woman’s BMW at Cavendish Glen Shopping Centre at around 4pm on Thursday afternoon.

According to Jill Lister, who will turn 75 in a week, this was the third attempt to steal her car at this particular centre.

Lister was in a nail salon when the store’s employees alerted her of the attempted theft. They could not recall how many men there were.

Car guards at the centre alerted an Ekurhuleni Metro Police officer, who was shopping at the centre at the time, about the incident. The suspects, however, got away.

According to him they drove a brand new Renault with registration number FG 93 RG GP.

“I’m a bit shaken but I’m fine. When it’s happened three times it’s really not on,” Lister said about the incident.

The officer said this was the fourth attempt of car theft he had seen in the Kempton Park area this year.

“People are especially targeted at malls. Half-an-hour after this incident a man was also robbed at an ATM. I believe people should always be on high alert, but especially on the 25th of each month, as that is when most people get paid.”
