WATCH: Bubbling poo pool in Bonaero Park resident’s yard

There is a history of continual sewer overflows from this sewer pump station.

Sewage overflowing at the Bonaero Park pump station made yet another resident’s life hell last week.

Hannes van Heerden, who lives on Essendon Avenue next to the pump station, had a bubbling pool of sewage in his garden last week Tuesday.

Ward councillor Alderman André du Plessis said there is a history of continual sewer overflows from this sewer pump station, which is a direct result of the non-functional sewer lines next to a rapidly degenerating wetland situated along Marignane Street.

“This is a serious health risk.

“Furthermore, this overflowing raw sewage also spills into the downstream wetland leading through Pomona, past Serengeti Estate and to Rietvlei Dam.

“This entire issue now demands urgent intervention and action,” he said following the latest incident.

He said he had been reporting this issue for the past five years.

According to Van Heerden, the sewage leaked through his perimeter wall after it could not be contained on the pump station property.

According to him, there is also a gully trap on his property which caused the bubbling pool of sewage.

He said a similar incident occurred on January 5.

The same also happened to the previous owners.

About half of Van Heerden’s backyard was covered.

He said the situation was improving by Thursday last week after the metro moved in.
