Drugs but no brothels found in CBD

The operation lasted from 9am to 4pm.

Although an operation aimed at brothels in the central business district yielded no positive results on Wednesday, four people were arrested for being in possession of drugs.

Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, said the crime prevention unit and Ekurhuleni metro police moved into the CBD around 9am.

“We focused on raiding alleged brothels on Kerk and Greyilla streets, as well as all liquor outlets on Kempton Road. However, nothing was found at the houses allegedly used for prostitution,” Mtshali said.

“During the search at a liquor outlet on Kempton Road three suspects, aged 19, 27 and 29, were found to be in possession of drugs.”

On Central Avenue a 40-year-old suspect was also caught with drugs.

Also on Central Avenue, a man was arrested with two suspected stolen cellphones in his possession. He tried to run away from the law enforcement officers.

The operation lasted until 4pm.
