POLICE have confirmed that an internal process is underway after allegations of assault were made against a police officer.
“An assault case has been opened for investigation,” national police spokesperson Lt Col Katlego Mogale said.
Mogale said the incident allegedly took place outside OR Tambo International airport on January 15. She said the case was opened at OR Tambo Police Station.
“The allegations being investigated are being viewed in a serious light,” she said.
According to an article in The Star, the victim and her family had been on holiday in the country for the festive season. The incident happened after they encountered a roadblock shortly after arriving in Johannesburg from Cape Town.
The officer allegedly started to engage the victim and asked if he could touch her hair. The article alleges that after touching her hair, the officer then started fondling the victim’s breasts in front of her family.
The family has now returned to Australia, where they live.
They have also told The Star they were told there would be no action taken on the matter, as they were leaving South Africa.
