EXPRESS last week reported that four men were arrested, after stealing a young man’s cellphone in Cresslawn and crashing while fleeing the scene.
However, some information about this case, given by section five sector crime forum chairperson Gerrie Germishuizen, proved to be incorrect.
It was, in fact, two men who stole a young man’s cellphone. The victim alerted his father that he had been robbed, and the duo chased after the suspects, who fled in a silver Megane towards Rhodesfield.

Here, at Rhodesfield café, the two suspects stopped in an attempt to hijack a different car. According to Germishuizen the robbers realised that they were being followed, and fled to Household Street.
“As the victims closed in on the suspects, one man fired at the father and son with a 9mm pistol.”
Father and son, however, persisted.
“The robbers lost control of their vehicle and the father and son, in a white Kia, rear-ended them, causing both vehicles to lose control.”
As the two suspects exited the car, one continued to fire shots at the victims.
These gunshots were heard around the neighbourhood.
Owner of Airwolf Security Ockert Snyman witnessed the accident and shooting and went after the suspects. According to Germishuizen, the armed suspect fled and hid in a complex of flats, but was quickly arrested. The police questioned the man, which led to the arrest of his accomplice.
A third suspect tried to help this accomplice to escape, while a fourth tried to get rid of the weapon. At the end of the day, all four suspects were arrested.
The weapon was retrieved, no one was injured and the cellphone was returned to its owner.
