Thief runs, leaving stolen gate motor with honest pawnshop owner

Is your gate missing a motor? If you suspect it was stolen, this might be yours.

Was your gate motor recently stolen? It might be at Cash Cow Pawnshop, ready for you to reclaim it.

The owner of this shop on Commissioner Street, who wishes to stay anonymous, told Express that a D5 Centurion gate motor was brought to his shop to be pawned on Monday afternoon.

“I suspected that the motor was stolen when the man only wanted R300 for it,” he said. It is estimated that these motors are usually sold for over R4 000.

“I asked the man to bring his ID. He said he was going to fetch it from his car but never came back.”

Luckily for its owner, the perp left the motor at an ethical shopkeeper’s business.

He advised that pawnshops are the best places to start looking for your stolen goods. “When people suspect that something in our shop was stolen from them, we are more than happy to call the police.” He also encouraged shop owners to trust their instinct when they suspect that stolen goods are being sold to them.

“Insist to see the person’s proper ID, usually they will make a run for it.”

If you suspect that this particular item was stolen from you, contact the shop on 074 18 5514, or visit them at 105 Commissioner Street.
