Hijacked Kempton car found at Midrand panel beaters

Police arrested a panel beater owner for possession of a hijacked motor vehicle on January 3.

A white VW Golf, hijacked in Kempton Park in December, was found at Shirinda Auto Panel Beaters along Dane Road in Austin View in January.

According to Rabie Ridge SAPS spokesperson Capt Mofana Masela the discovery was made when two officers, Lt Col Francois van der Merwe and W/O Morithi Makuwa, were on a visible patrol checking compliance at scrapyards.

“While searching the business premises and inspecting motor vehicles, the members identified the car and arrested the owner of the business for possession of a stolen motor vehicle,” said Masela.

“It is believed the car arrived at the business on December 24. Police also discovered three other stolen vehicles that were alleged to have been brought there on December 23.

According to D/Const Jafter Lekhuleni of Midrand SAPS, a tracker company traced two vehicles stolen from Thabo and Mpho Cleaning Company in Kaalfontein to the panel beater’s business premises.

The four vehicles, a VW Golf, Nissan NP200, Ford Ranger and Ford Fiesta, were taken in for storage and identification.

Police are investigating a business burglary (Midrand), hijacking (Kempton Park) and possession of hijacked motor vehicle (Rabie Ridge).
