New refuse removal schedule on the cards – black bags are out

This forms part of what the waste department calls 'a comprehensive service delivery'

As from March 5, the refuse removal calendar for Kempton Park will change.

As from this date no black bags will be picked up and only wheelie bins will be serviced.

In order to assist residents who still do not have wheelie bins, a final roll-out will be at Kempton Park Civic Centre on the following days:

• Wednesday 21 February from 10am until 6pm

• Thursday 22 February from 10am until 6pm

• Friday 23 February from 10am to 6pm

• Saturday 24 February from 10am to 3pm

If residents leave black bags outside after March 5, they will not be collected and residents will be served a notice to inform them that black backs will no longer be collected, ward councillor Gideon van Zyl said.

The existing rounds will also change. A full schedule will be made available soon to inform residents of the new schedules. This forms part of what the waste department calls “a comprehensive service delivery”.

“This new schedule will entail that the waste department will no longer do rounds in different streets in one area on different days. They will cover a complete set of services per area.

“If your suburb’s schedule is on Monday, a full waste management team will cover refuse collection, litter picking and dumping removal in your area in all streets,” Van Zyl added.

“So according to the waste department, a comprehensive service will take place in an area once a week, including supervisors who will validate the work done. According to the department this will hold several benefits like predictability of service, better accuracy in service delivery and overall improvement of service standards.”
