Hijackers nabbed in Winnie Mandela after a year

Two men arrested with a vehicle they hijacked in 2016.

Members of the EMPD Community Liaison Unit (CLU) arrested two suspects found in possession of a vehicle that was hijacked and the case has been under investigation since November 2016.

On February 13, CLU and SAPS investigations bore fruit when the two suspects were found with the vehicle.“The vehicle was hijacked by three armed males from the owner. Armed with concrete leads, the EMPD CLU members tracked down the suspects to Winnie Mandela 2 in Tembisa where the vehicle was also recovered. The manhunt is on for the third suspect,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago.

He said the arrested pair, aged 35 and 49, were apprehended and detained at Tembisa Police Station as per a Wierdabrug SAPS case. They were expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. The recovered BMW was towed to SAPS Van Ryn pound in Benoni for further investigations and safekeeping.
