The phase one construction of the city’s Integrated Rapid Transport Network (IRPTN) is well underway in parts of Tembisa, with the construction of pedestrian bridges planned to take place in March.
This work will include the lifting of heavy structural steel elements, which will require the closure of affected roads for the safety of motorists and pedestrians.
Road closures will take place from 2pm on Saturday, March 3 through to 10am on Sunday, March 4 affecting Station 14, between Andrew Mapheto Drive and Transformation Street, as well as Station 12 between Andrew Mapheto and Dan Nkabinde drives.
“For the city to carry out this important project in a safe manner, we are planning to close off a part of the road during the lifting process,” said Ekurhuleni spokesperson Themba Gadebe. “We will close off the south-bound side completely and divert traffic going into and coming out of Tembisa to the north-bound side, and vice versa, depending on which side of the road is closed off to the public.”
In addition, construction of the pedestrian bridge at Station 12 will continue from 2pm on Saturday, March 10 through to 10am on Sunday, March 11.
The City of Ekurhuleni apologises for the inconvenience caused.
