Ekurhuleni North Cluster Crime Prevention Unit have arrested a 29-year old man from Ivory Park’s Extension 7 for dealing in Nyaope, a commonly abused drug in Ivory Park and the adjacent areas such as Tembisa.
According to Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, the police, acting on information received, pounced on the unsuspecting alleged dealer right at his home.
“Once they were done with the formalities of introducing themselves, the police found the suspect in possession of more than 285 sachets of Nyaope. Some of the drugs were on his person while others were found in his room.
According to information received, the suspect conducted his business in front of his home,” said Captain Matimulane.
Matimulane said upon conducting further searches, the police found more than R3 000 in cash, strongly believed to have been from the proceeds of drug sales.
“All in all the total value of the items confiscated, including the cash, is slightly above R16 000. He is facing a charge of dealing in drugs and is expected to appear in Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Captain Matimulane.
The police has expressed appreciation for the tip-off that led to this arrest and firmly believe that if more people were to heed this call, Ivory Park would be a safer place for its residents.
