‘Criminal’ stoned, burnt to death in Winnie Mandela Zone 4

'We appeal to members of the community not to take the law into their own hands'

A group of community members from Winnie Mandela Zone 5 allegedly attacked, stoned and burnt a man to death in the early hours of the morning on Thursday, March 1.

The incident took place in a street in Winnie Mandela Zone 4, behind the Customer Care Tavern.

According to the Tembisa SAPS communications officer, Captain Manyadza Ralidzivha, the deceased was identified as Eddy Sithole, known as Rasta by members of the community, who resided in Winnie Mandela Zone 4.

Eddy Sithole was stoned and burnt to death in Winnie Mandela Zone 4 in the early hours of the morning on March 1.

“A murder case was registered and no one has been arrested. We are appealing to members of the community not to take the law into their own hands,” said Ralidzivha.

It is thought that Sithole originally hails from Maputo.

It is also claimed one of his friends was attacked and killed on February 27.

The deceased was reportedly targeted by members of the community from February 26 for crimes he allegedly committed.

According to some members of the community who wanted to remain anonymous, Sithole was one of the criminals who terrorised the Winnie Mandela Zone 5 community.

“He was selling dagga to the community and he was also involved in the criminal element,” one of the residents said.

Disaster and Emergency Services and SAPS members attended to the scene.

The body was transported to the mortuary by members of the Germiston Forensic and Pathology unit.
