Return overdue library material at no cost this week

The celebrations will also recognise the vital role played by libraries.

Libraries across the City of Ekurhuleni will celebrate South African Library Week from March 19-25.

As part of the celebrations, patrons will not be charged any fee for late returns during this week.

This year’s theme for Fine-Free Library Week is “Libraries: Heart of the Community”. The theme seeks to emphasise the idea that libraries belong to the community and are central hubs of knowledge for community development.

“Libraries are so much more than just books, they reflect and serve communities according to their needs,” Ekurhuleni’s MMC for community services Clr Dora Mlambo said.

“We plead with library users to return all overdue material they have borrowed in order to allow others to benefit from them,” Mlambo said.

The celebrations will also recognise the vital role played by libraries, from school to public, academic or special libraries. They offer vital resources to address community needs and are places where the community gathers to interface on community issues.
