The driver of scrap dealer family business in Chloorkop was followed from a bank in Festival Mall and robbed at gunpoint outside his workplace on March 14 at around 1.40pm.
“I was coming from Standard Bank and I drove to the office. I did not notice I was being followed,” explained John Phaladi.
Phaladi said after parking the company vehicle in the driveway, a charcoal-coloured Mazda 6 parked next to him and three armed suspects jumped out. One suspect remained in the driver’s seat.
“One came to my door and opened it halfway. He put a gun to my waist and said he knew I had money and if I didn’t give it to him he would shoot me.”
Phaladi said the four suspects looked like they were in their early 20s.
“They took the R5 000 from my pocket as well as the car keys,” Phaladi further explained.

The four suspects then sped off.
Phaladi’s employer, Adriano Pizzini, said the 64-year old had worked for the family business for over 30 years.
“The suspects thought he was carrying a very large amount of money because it was in R10 and R20 notes as we needed change for the office,” he said.
Pizzini provided EXPRESS with CCTV footage of the incident.
The victim is still shaken by the incident and says every small thing scares him.
“Everyone looks like a suspect,” he added.
