Residents were yet again frustrated by the non-collection of their refuse on Wednesday (March 21).
According to André Human, regional manager at the Kempton Park waste management department, the non-collection was due to a shortage of staff.
“Some of the workers were not at work because it was a public holiday and said they were afraid they wouldn’t be paid overtime,” he said.
“Some of Wednesday’s areas were collected but not all, however, the department is working on clearing Wednesday’s backlog.”
Residents whose areas fall on a Wednesday are encouraged to put out their wheelie bins.
It is also important to note that since the release of the new Waste Removal Calendar 2018 – KEMPTON PARK, refuse will be collected even when the day falls on a public holiday.
This is different to the previous calendar where residents would take out their refuse the day after the public holiday. The only public holiday where residents can expect their refuse not to be collected is on Christmas Day (December 25).
