After a special council meeting on April 4, it was decided that the allegations of serious financial misconduct against Lusanda Madikizela, Ekurhuleni head of department for transport planning and provision, be subjected and tested through an independent disciplinary process and in line with the disciplinary regulations for senior managers.
The Ekurhuleni ANC caucus has welcomed this decision.
“We welcome the above resolution guided by our standing commitment that any manifestation of maladministration, fraud and corruption must be responded to swiftly, subject to due processes,” said ANC chief whip Clr Jongizizwe Dlabathi in a statement on Thursday.
“Furthermore, the ANC caucus believes that the principle of innocent until proven guilty must be adhered to until a final determination is made,” Dlabathi added.
Madikizela was suspended last month pending an investigation into irregular expenditure of R50-million by her department.
