DA welcomes EMPD reshuffle

The DA will continue to monitor the process.

The DA in Ekurhuleni has welcomed the reshuffling of directors and precinct commanders within the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) by chief of police Isaac Mapiyeye.

The reshuffle of directors took place in February, while precinct commanders were reshuffled at the beginning of this month.

In a statement issued by Clrs Jaco Terblanche (DA member of community safety oversight in Ekurhuleni) and Dean Stone (DA spokesperson for community safety in Ekurhuleni), they said they hoped that the reshuffle would improve community safety within the City of Ekurhuleni, and contribute to motivating officers in their respective precincts, as well as improving internal discipline.

“The DA urges chief Mapiyeye to investigate the possibility of reallocating resources to ensure that those areas that need it the most receive the necessary support. While the DA applauds chief Mapiyeye’s action in improving service delivery, we will continue to monitor the process with the interests of achieving a crime-free Ekurhuleni.”
