A 62-year-old Chinese man was arrested on Friday morning at a property in Bredell on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
“At around 7am, members of the Benoni K9 Unit received a tip-off about a property in Bredell where it is alleged that illegal activities are taking place,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.
“On arrival, armed with a search warrant, officers found one occupant who gave permission for them to search the property. They found two 9mm pistols and different kinds of ammunition. The occupant was unable to explain where it came from.”
These firearms were found in the search made by officers earlier in the morning.
Mtshali told EXPRESS that more firearms were discovered later in the day.
“Police decided to search the property again and found more firearms and ammunition,” said Mtshali.
“Rifles were among the firearms found during the second search and it is alleged that the owner is in Thaiwan but the matter will be investigated further.”
The 62-year-old Chinese national will appear in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court soon.
