Hawks nab suspect in R30-m heist in Norkem Park

The Hawks arrested five suspects linked to a R30-million cash-in-transit heist.

The Hawks arrested a suspect in Norkem Park in connection with a cash-in-transit heist that took place earlier this month.

The suspect and four of his colleagues, who were also arrested, work for a cash delivery company.

According to Capt Ndivhuwo Mulamu, spokesperson for the Hawks in Gauteng, the other four suspects were arrested in Bloemfontein, Rustenburg and Nongoma in KwaZulu-Natal respectively.

“The Hawks arrested the suspects at different times and places from Thursday to Sunday,” said Mulamu.

“The arrests were the result of an investigation by the Hawks’ National Bureau of Illegal Firearms Control and Priority Violent Crime Unit. About R30-million in US dollars was stolen during the heist on April 13.

“Police are still looking for four other suspects, one of whom was the driver of the armoured vehicle.”

The armoured vehicle was en route to Selby from Spartan but suddenly stopped in Kensington where the heist took place.

The case is being investigated while the five suspects remain in custody.
