Saftu strike: No workers at licensing department

A distressed resident called Express to complain about the long queues resulting from the strike action.

Workers at the Kempton Park licensing department did not show up for work on Wednesday morning, causing long queues and annoyed customers.

Thousands of workers nationwide joined in the SA Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) protest over the national minimum wage.

A distressed resident called Express to complain about the long queues.

According to the complainant he had been standing outside the department since 6am and the gates remained closed.

When Express arrived at the premises at 9.30am there were only a few people standing outside the closed gate.

The security officer said the gates were closed because a meeting was being held inside and there were not enough staff members because of the strike.
