Help Antifreeze in spreading warmth this winter

Knit, buy or donate money and give somebody the gift of warmth this winter.

Winter is rapidly approaching and for many less fortunate people that means many months of struggling to stay warm.

You can make a difference in the lives of these people by donating scarves, beanies or blankets to Operation Antifreeze’s winter woolies drive.

“Operation Antifreeze supports over 500 school children in 11 different schools throughout Ekurhuleni. These groups of children have been identified by the teachers as coming from very poor homes and are in dire need of assistance,” said Hilary Tolmay, project coordinator and fund-raiser at the organisation.

Operation Antifreeze assists by providing food parcels and, where possible, assisting the schools with providing lunch for the children. For many of these children, the meal they get at school is the only meal they get for the day and some of them do not eat from the Friday when they leave school until the Monday when they return.

Operation Antifreeze provides stationery packs to these children at the beginning of the year, something to keep them warm in winter and a large food hamper for Christmas to ensure they have something to eat over the December holidays.

These children will be the beneficiaries of the winter woolies drives, as well as the 700 people that Operation Antifreeze feed and give a food parcel to once a month at its soup kitchen.

“So knit, buy or donate money and give somebody the gift of warmth this winter,” Tolmay added.
